I just watched another documentary called "Paper Clips" where a group of middle school students start an after school project for the purpose of remembrance of the victims of the Holocaust. The paper clip was a symbol of silent protest against the Holocaust in Norway. The Norweigans not shipped away would wear paper clips on their lapel. The fear was that an actual protest would land them in a cattle car as well.
In this documentary, the school officials identify a problem in the community. They are all alike. There is no diversity in the student population. The students decide to begin a project of collecting 6 million paper clips to not only remember the 6 million Jews killed during the Holocaust but also to better understand what 6 million looks like. It's a powerful message and supported in the film with survivor interviews, classroom lessons, and liberation footage.
Has anyone ever seen this before?

Continuing the conversation...
Keeping the conversation alive is going to be important throughout the rehearsal process for this show. Any questions you have, others probably have as well. Issues you are having with the subject matter, others are probably having too.
I want us to be open and honest and fuel this documentary that we are building for our audience with our own thoughts and ideas on the topics being presented.
I thought we could use this blog as a mechanism to do just that. We will have limited time in rehearsal for any lengthy discussions.
I would like you to start by looking at the notes you took during the read-thru. I asked you to write down items in 4 boxes.
1. What do you say about your own character?
2. What do other characters say about you?
3. What are the major themes / ideas that are presented in this play?
4. What questions or issues do you have with the script/concept/etc?
With a stronger focus on 3 and 4 right now, I would love to get some comments on this post with your answers.
